Distance Learning Plan

Falls Elementary School
Falls Elementary School (FES) is a Pre-K-Grade 5 building with each grade and classroom’s distance learning plan looking slightly different. Teachers at FES will be using a variety of online platforms to communicate with parents including, google classroom, seesaw, private Facebook pages, zoom videos, FaceTime, phone-calls, emails, and texts. Many of the teachers at FES will also be doing a weekly exchange of paper/pencil packets. These packets will be distributed and turned in on a weekly basis. Those teachers that are not exchanging paper/pencil packets will be having students submit their work in an online format such as like pictures or google classroom.
Teachers will host a minimum of 2 interactive sessions per week (zoom, google meets, Facebook live, etc) and should get links to families in advance. These live sessions are to provide instruction/discussion along with supporting the need of students to see/hear their students, students to interact with their peers, and continue the classroom relationships previously developed. Students will also be provided a minimum of 2 recorded sessions in math, 2 recorded sessions in reading/spelling, and 4 recorded sessions of their choice. All students can join these sessions via computer or phone. Idea is to give a little instruction or directions, but also support their needs to see/hear the instructor along with clarifying some of the typical questions that might come up over and over. Teachers will work to clarify which materials are required and what is supplemental. Goal is to manage the workload for families while trying to finish covering required standards. Music and PE will have weekly activities for the students to complete as well.
Attendance will be taken by families communicating with the teacher on a daily basis. Some teachers will have families reply to a post, could be a call to them on that day, could be materials returned to school, all showing daily involvement. Families have been individually contacted regarding their internet and technology access. We now only have two families that do not have internet access due to their choosing. Teachers will use the telephone primarily to check in with these families as well as the paper/pencil exchange of packets.
Teachers are working daily and should be available to help students/families. Please address questions to them to help ease your burden. The goal is to not add additional stress to the current situation and use them as a resource. Contact them using email, calling their school phone extension, or other means that they have provided you. Falls High School
Teachers at Falls High School (FHS) have prepared to offer instruction using a single platform approach called Google Classroom. Google Classroom is a web service that will allow our teachers to create, deliver, and grade assignments. We are using one platform for delivery for ease of use by parents and students but will incorporate other means of communication to accommodate different student learning styles and different course topics. Many of our elective courses will involve both online and paper or project type assignments. This will mean that materials will need to be delivered and collected on a weekly basis
Many classes will go completely paperless using this service while others will continue to distribute weekly paper assignments to students. Teachers will be accommodating students who do not have computers or Internet access by providing paper assignments that will be available for pickup or delivery weekly. Students accessing this mode of delivery will also need to turn completed work back in to the school weekly for grading and feedback. ISD 361 has distributed numerous computers to students who did not have access at home but had Internet service. We are also working with families to help them get Internet service if they currently don't have access.
Each student at Falls High School has their own unique username, password, and email address enabling them to access Google Classroom. Many students are familiar with this platform since numerous teachers have been using this while we were in session. Teachers have added students to their various classes and will be communicating with students to ensure that students' questions can be answered.
Teachers will be creating a homeroom class in Google Classroom in which students will answer a daily question asking if they have any technology needs. This will serve as daily attendance so each student will need to respond before working each day. Students and parents are reminded to call the high school office if their child will not be logging in and participating in instruction for the day just like they would have done when we were in session.
Grade level meetings will be held weekly beginning May 5th in which a group of your child’s teachers will collectively hold a zoom session. These sessions will have a little explanation from each teacher on their class work along with general question and answers pertaining to what is going on. This is an opportunity to connect and staff will get the links out to students in advance. Individual or small group sessions can be arranged individually with staff as well.
Teachers will continue to refine their delivery as we move forward through the online learning phase. We urge parents and students to contact us immediately if they are having problems accessing their school work whether it be online or in print. We also want to help students and parents with any technology needs they may have. Food service program is available to all children on school days. Meals can be picked up via a drive through lane behind Falls High School between 11 and 1 pm. A lunch for the current day and breakfast for tomorrow will be provided. Meals can also be delivered to families that do not have the means to pick them up by calling 218-283-2571 ext. 1102 in advance to schedule delivery. Meal program will continue through May 28th.
School-age childcare will be provide at Falls Elementary School for local tier I employees through May 28th. Please coordinate attendance with the Falls Elementary office at 218-283-2571 ext. 1230.
