March 20, 2020 Update

Food service will continue all next week and as long as school is not being conducted in the buildings for regular scheduled school days.  A big accomplishment was to get acceptance into the summer food service program so we can now offer free meals to all students under the age of 18.  We do still need families to register their children for meal pick up or meal drop off so that we have the number of meals prepared that we need.  Please call 283-2571 ext. 1102 to get your child added to the list if you desire this service.  They will provide a lunch and breakfast in each bag.

Childcare for families that have workers in the Tier I areas (emergency workers) will continue for district students 12 and under as long as school is not in session in our buildings.  Please call 283-2571 ext. 1230 to get your child registered for this service.

Distance learning development and planning continues to be the main focus of teaching staff.  We will eventually get a plan for the different buildings put together and will post a summative document outlining how we see that working.  Staff has been working hard to contact all families to see what they have as far as technology and if there are ways we can help in this area.  We plan to loan devices if that will help families that do not have devices.  There is no need to run and buy a chromebook, computer, or tablet unless that is something you planned on doing.  We will make it work in a variety of formats be it paper and pencil with some phone calls to check in, lessons recorded and pushed out through zoom or facebook, google classroom, and the list goes on.  Assuming we rollout distance learning there will be some bumps along the way.  Please be patient, but please do communicate what your needs are with the respective buildings.  More specific information will come out next week.

The next major objective is to get families ready to go on this journey.  We have scheduled next Wednesday to be a voluntary pickup day for the personal belongings, books, materials for the following week, etc.  Elementary teachers are cleaning out your child’s desk and getting their learning materials organized.  High school staff is cleaning out lockers and getting personal belongings bagged, collecting books, and putting materials together.  We will have these available for pickup beginning Wednesday.  We would appreciate families picking up these materials if at all possible and if it doesn’t put undue burden on you.  Materials that are not picked up will then be organized and delivered on Thursday.  We will not leave any items outside of a house, so if you do not pick items up on Wednesday and you know no one will be home, call us with an alternative drop off location (283-2571 ext. 1300).

Wednesday pick up:  We are trying to do this orderly as to not have people having to wait for extended periods of time.  Families will use the bus lane at FES or FHS, tell us your child’s name/grade and we will convey that to workers inside who will deliver the items to your vehicle.  One suggestion was to write your child’s name/grade on a piece of paper so that workers can pick the correct vehicle as they come out.  Below is the schedule, but if this doesn’t work with your schedule, you are welcome to come anytime during the outlined periods.

10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Many teachers have already connected with families and have distributed personal belongings and materials for the week of March 30th.  If you are not sure if you have anything to pick up, contact the teacher in advance.  Please use bus lane in single file and staff will get child’s name and retrieve materials for you.  If you have more than one child attending FES, feel free to get all of their material at the same time.

Further questions, contact FES office at 283-2571 ext. 1230

The above schedules are an attempt to prevent congestion, but if the assigned time doesn’t work, come when it works in your schedule.

The distance learning will look different for different grades and different classes.  We are committed to working with families to do the best we can with the resources available.  We sure hope this is short term, but we are committed to deliver the best service that we can.  Thank you for your cooperation and please communicate questions that you have as we continue to roll out the plan.
